Insomnia Causes, Symptoms, Home Remedies & Ayurvedic Medicine

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can significantly impact your daily life. Understanding its causes and exploring natural remedies, including Ayurvedic approaches, can help restore restful sleep and improve overall well-being.

Ingredients

  • Warm milk – 1 cup (240 ml)
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
  • Ashwagandha powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Honey (preferably raw) – 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh lavender or chamomile tea (optional) – 1 cup
  • Ghee (clarified butter) – ½ teaspoon (optional)
  • Fresh ginger – 1 small piece (about ½ inch)
  • Cardamom pods – 2
  • Indian gooseberry (amla) powder – ¼ teaspoon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the herbal milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk over low to medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. Add spices: Stir in the turmeric powder, crushed cardamom pods, and grated ginger. Let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  3. Optional additions: If using, add the ashwagandha powder and amla powder to the milk. Stir well to dissolve completely.
  4. Sweeten naturally: Remove from heat and stir in the honey. If you prefer, add a teaspoon of ghee for added calming effects.
  5. Strain and serve: Strain the milk into a cup to remove the ginger and cardamom pieces. For added relaxation, prepare a cup of herbal lavender or chamomile tea separately.
  6. Enjoy before bed: Drink this warm herbal milk about 30 minutes before bedtime to promote relaxation and help induce sleep.

Tips

  • Adjust spices: Feel free to modify the amount of ginger or cardamom based on your taste preferences or sensitivity.
  • Use organic ingredients: To maximize health benefits, opt for organic spices, honey, and milk whenever possible.
  • Consistent routine: Incorporate this herbal milk into your nightly routine for better sleep over time.
  • Avoid caffeine and heavy meals: Reduce intake of caffeine and avoid heavy or spicy foods close to bedtime to enhance sleep quality.

Serving Suggestions

Pair this herbal milk with a calming bedtime routine such as gentle stretching, meditation, or reading a book. Creating a relaxing environment can further improve your chances of falling asleep quickly and deeply.
