Midland’s current members are Mark Wystrach (lead vocals, guitar), Jess Carson (rhythm guitar, vocals) and Cameron Duddy (bass guitar, vocals). The country trio formed in Dripping Springs, Texas, in 2014, and its line-up has not changed since. On tour, the three are backed by a band of touring musicians.

Mark Wystrach – Lead Vocals, Guitar
Mark Wystrach is Midland’s frontman. He grew up around live music, since his parents owned a honky tonk country music venue, and he is also an actor and model who was signed to IMG Models. Before Midland, he and Duddy formed a country-rock band called The Young Whiskey in Los Angeles.
Jess Carson – Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
Jess Carson grew up on a small farm in Oregon, where country was the main music around him. His sister and father were musicians, and he started out playing guitar, singing and writing songs. He was already living in Texas when the band formed, and the other two moved their families there to join him.
Cameron Duddy – Bass Guitar, Vocals
Cameron Duddy plays bass and sings. He is also a music video director who won an MTV Video Music Award for Bruno Mars’s “Locked Out of Heaven”, and he directed the video for Midland’s debut single, “Drinkin’ Problem”.

How the Band Formed
The three met separately around Los Angeles. They came together as a group at Duddy’s wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in August 2013, where Wystrach and Carson were groomsmen and played songs together on the porch of Carson’s cabin. In January 2014 they spent 10 days recording at the Sonic Ranch studio in El Paso, Texas; as Wystrach put it, “when we went to the Sonic Ranch, we became a band.” They named themselves after the Dwight Yoakam song “Fair to Midland”.
Midland signed to Big Machine Records on March 9, 2016, and released their debut album On the Rocks in September 2017. As a trio they were nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2018 for “Drinkin’ Problem” and won New Vocal Group of the Year at the 2018 ACM Awards. Their albums since include Let It Roll, The Last Resort: Greetings From, Barely Blue and Stages.
