1. The Album’s Release Date and Format
Complete Control is scheduled to drop on August 25, 2024. The album will be available across multiple formats, including digital download, CD, vinyl, and limited-edition colored vinyl. The band has partnered with Relapse Records to ensure wide distribution and availability worldwide, making it easy for fans to access the album no matter their preferred listening method. The vinyl edition features exclusive artwork and a gatefold sleeve, adding collectible value for dedicated fans.
2. Thematic Focus and Lyrical Content
As the title suggests, Complete Control dives deep into themes of authoritarianism, political corruption, and societal manipulation. Frontman Mark Kloeppel’s lyrics are more direct and confrontational than ever, reflecting current global tensions and protests. Songs like “State of Emergency” and “Power Play” dissect the abuse of authority, urging listeners to wake up and resist oppressive systems. This thematic focus makes the album not just music but a rallying cry for activism and awareness.
3. Musical Style and Evolution
While MISERY INDEX remains rooted in their signature blend of grindcore, death metal, and hardcore punk, Complete Control introduces more groove and complexity. The band experiments with new rhythmic patterns and incorporates elements of thrash metal, giving the album a more dynamic and layered sound. Fans will notice a tighter production quality, with producer Kurt Ballou (Converge) bringing clarity and punch to each track, emphasizing the urgency and raw energy of the performances.
4. Notable Tracks and Collaborations
The album features standout tracks like “Oppression Machine,” which combines relentless riffs with a catchy chorus, and “Control Freak,” a fast-paced critique of authoritarian control. Additionally, the band collaborates with vocalist Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed on the track “Power Dynamics,” adding a hardcore punk edge to the song’s aggressive message. These collaborations and song structures showcase the band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their hardcore roots.
5. Artwork and Packaging
The album artwork, designed by Eliran Kantor, depicts a dystopian cityscape under a surveillance state, reinforcing the album’s themes. The packaging for the vinyl edition includes a lyric booklet with political commentary and band photos, making it a visually compelling package. Limited editions also feature a metallic embossed cover and a signed poster, appealing to collectors and die-hard fans.
