The band has announced their new EP titled ‘Timeless,’ featuring a fresh track called ‘Obsolete.’ Whether you’re a longtime listener or new to their sound, here’s a comprehensive guide to what you need to know about this upcoming release, why it matters, and how to choose what to listen to first.
1. OF MICE & MEN’s ‘Timeless’ EP: What You Need to Know
The band’s ‘Timeless’ EP marks a significant milestone in their discography, showcasing a mature sound that blends their signature aggressive riffs with more melodic elements. Recorded during sessions in Los Angeles with producer Zakk Cervini, the EP delivers six tracks that reflect themes of resilience, change, and reflection. It’s a testament to the band’s evolution since their debut in 2010 and signals a new chapter in their musical journey.
2. ‘Obsolete’: The New Single’s Sound and Significance
The lead single ‘Obsolete’ is a powerful track that combines driving guitar riffs with frontman Austin Carlile’s raw vocal delivery. Lyrically, it explores feelings of insignificance in a rapidly changing world, resonating deeply with listeners who feel alienated or overwhelmed. Musically, it stands out for its dynamic shifts between aggressive verses and melodic choruses, making it a compelling introduction to the EP’s overall tone.
3. The Creative Team Behind ‘Timeless’
In addition to Zakk Cervini’s production, the band collaborated with longtime guitarist Alan Ashby and drummer Atom Willard to craft a cohesive sound that balances heaviness with melody. The songwriting process involved revisiting themes from earlier albums like ‘Restoring Force’ while exploring new lyrical territory. This team’s combined experience ensures that ‘Timeless’ feels both fresh and true to OF MICE & MEN’s core identity.
4. How ‘Timeless’ Fits Into OF MICE & MEN’s Discography
This EP marks a departure from some of their heavier, more aggressive records like ‘Cold World,’ leaning into more accessible melodies without sacrificing their core intensity. It bridges the gap between their earlier post-hardcore roots and a more polished alternative rock sound. Fans of albums like ‘Defy’ will find ‘Timeless’ to be a natural progression, offering both familiarity and innovation.
5. Why ‘Obsolete’ Is a Must-Listen Track
‘Obsolete’ stands out as a highlight due to its lyrical depth and musical complexity. The song’s chorus, with its soaring melodies, showcases Austin Carlile’s vocal range and emotional delivery. It also hints at the themes of the full EP, making it a perfect entry point for new listeners and a satisfying listen for longtime fans.
6. The Visuals and Music Video for ‘Obsolete’
The band released a visually striking music video for ‘Obsolete,’ directed by Travis Shinn. It features apocalyptic imagery and powerful symbolism that complement the song’s themes of change and obsolescence. The video’s gritty aesthetic enhances the song’s emotional impact, making it a compelling visual experience that adds depth to the track.

Ultimately, sampling multiple tracks will give you the best sense of the record’s full scope.
How to Choose
When selecting which song or version to prioritize, consider your mood and what themes resonate with you most. Do you want high-energy tracks that pump you up?
