Whether you’re a longtime fan or just curious about their return, this guide provides concrete details to help you experience the band’s triumphant comeback.
1. The Significance of the 25-Year Gap
Porno for Pyros was formed in 1992 by Perry Farrell, the frontman of Jane’s Addiction, alongside Stephen Perkins, Mike Watt, and Peter Distefano. Their first album, Porno for Pyros, was released in 1993, followed by Good God’s Urge in 1996. The band disbanded in 1998 due to personal conflicts and Perry Farrell’s focus on Jane’s Addiction. Their reunion after over two decades is a major event for fans who have long awaited new live performances from this influential band. The tour marks a rare opportunity to see a band that has maintained a cult following despite years of silence, making it a must-attend event for fans of alternative and psychedelic rock.
2. The Tour Dates and Venues
The tour kicks off in Los Angeles at the Fonda Theatre on August 15, 2024, and includes stops in major cities like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. Notably, the band will perform at the Hollywood Bowl on August 22, a historic venue known for hosting legendary acts. Each date has been carefully selected to maximize accessibility for fans across the U.S., with some shows selling out quickly due to the band’s long-awaited return. The venues range from intimate clubs to large outdoor amphitheaters, offering different concert experiences. Peter Distefano, a key guitarist on their albums, is also expected to join for select dates, adding authenticity to their live sound. This lineup reflects the band’s original chemistry, with Farrell’s distinctive vocals and Perkins’ energetic drumming driving the performance. Fans should note that some shows might feature guest musicians or additional performers to enrich the live experience, so checking the specific lineup for each date is recommended.
