Raisin Milk: Nutrition, 20 Benefits, Side Effects & How to Make It

Raisin milk is a nutritious, naturally sweet beverage made by soaking dried raisins in milk. It combines the health benefits of raisins with the creamy texture of milk, making it a wholesome drink for all ages. Perfect as a morning boost or a soothing evening drink, it’s easy to prepare and customizable to your taste preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dried raisins
  • 2 cups whole milk (or plant-based milk like almond, soy, or oat milk)
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the raisins thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or residuals.
  2. Place the rinsed raisins in a medium-sized bowl and cover them with 1 cup of warm water. Let soak for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to soften the raisins.
  3. Drain the soaked raisins, reserving the soaking water if desired for extra flavor.
  4. Add the soaked raisins to a blender along with the 2 cups of milk. If you prefer a sweeter milk, include honey or maple syrup, and add vanilla extract and cinnamon if using.
  5. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and well combined, about 1-2 minutes.
  6. If you prefer a thinner consistency, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a bowl or jug, pressing gently to extract all the liquid.
  7. Pour the raisin milk into a glass or bottle and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
  8. Shake or stir well before drinking, and enjoy this nutritious beverage chilled.

Tips

  • For a creamier texture, use full-fat milk or add a spoonful of yogurt or coconut milk during blending.
  • If you don’t have time to soak raisins overnight, simmer them in hot water for 10-15 minutes to soften quickly.
  • Experiment with different sweeteners like agave syrup or dates for natural sweetness without refined sugar.
  • Store leftover raisin milk in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Shake well before each use as ingredients may separate.
  • For a vegan version, opt for plant-based milks and ensure any sweeteners are plant-based as well.

Serving Suggestions

Serve raisin milk chilled as a nutritious breakfast drink, a midday energy booster, or a soothing bedtime beverage. It pairs well with oatmeal, granola, or fresh fruit for a complete, healthful meal. You can also use it as a base for smoothies or as a milk substitute in recipes requiring milk.
