1. The Cover Series: Reimagining Classics with a Modern Twist
Serj Tankian’s cover selections on this album span genres and eras, from reinterpretations of classic rock songs to experimental takes on folk tunes. Notably, his cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” features a haunting, layered arrangement that combines traditional instruments with electronic textures. These covers are worth exploring because they showcase Tankian’s ability to breathe new life into familiar songs while infusing them with his distinctive style, making them relevant for today’s listeners.
2. Collaborations with Diverse Artists
The album features collaborations with a wide range of artists, including Armenian singer Sirusho on the track “Unity,” which blends traditional Armenian melodies with modern rock elements. Another standout is the duet with Icelandic singer Björk on “Collage of Souls,” a song that merges Tankian’s experimental vocals with Björk’s ethereal soundscapes. These collaborations are compelling because they highlight cultural exchange and musical innovation, embodying the album’s theme of artistic unity across borders and genres.
3. The Collage Concept: Artistic Assemblage in Sound and Image
“Collages” in this context refer to the album’s innovative use of layered soundscapes and visual art. Tankian has incorporated collage art into the album packaging, featuring snippets of photographs, drawings, and text that reflect themes of unity, chaos, and harmony. Musically, tracks like “Mosaic of Voices” weave together snippets of field recordings, spoken word, and diverse musical motifs to create a rich, textured listening experience. This approach invites listeners to see and hear the album as a unified artwork, emphasizing the interconnectedness of different artistic elements.

The album aims to inspire listeners to reflect on societal divisions and encourages a sense of shared humanity, making it more than just a musical project but a statement of artistic activism.
5. Unique Production Techniques and Sound Design
Tankian’s approach to production on this album is experimental, blending traditional instruments with electronic manipulation and found sounds. For example, the track “Echoes of the Past” uses manipulated field recordings from war zones and natural environments to evoke emotional responses. These techniques enhance the album’s collage theme, creating a layered sonic landscape that rewards attentive listening and deep engagement with the music.

The album’s visual presentation plays a crucial role, featuring artwork by Armenian artist Ara Shirinyan and collage-inspired visuals that complement the music’s themes. The physical album includes layered artwork, fold-outs, and inserts that invite fans to explore the visual stories behind each song. This integration of art and music underscores the album’s message of unity through diverse artistic mediums.
