Effective Remedies for Cracked Hands & Feet in Winter

Effective Remedies for Cracked Hands & Feet in Winter

Cracked hands and feet during winter can be painful and unsightly, but with the right nourishing treatments, you can restore their softness and health. This homemade remedy combines natural ingredients known for their healing and moisturizing properties, making it an effective solution for winter skin woes.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for added hydration)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a double boiler by filling a small pot with about an inch of water and placing it over medium heat. Place a heat-safe glass or metal bowl on top, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water.
  2. Add the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax pellets into the bowl. Stir gently as the ingredients melt together, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once fully melted, remove the bowl from heat. Let it cool slightly for about 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the vitamin E oil and, if using, the lavender essential oil and honey. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
  5. Pour the mixture into small, clean containers or jars. Allow it to cool and solidify at room temperature, which typically takes about 30 minutes. For faster setting, place the containers in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Once solidified, the balm is ready to use. Apply a small amount to cracked hands and feet, massaging gently until absorbed. Use twice daily, especially before bed and after handwashing.

Tips

  • Substitute shea butter with cocoa butter or almond butter if preferred. These also provide excellent moisturization.
  • Store the balm in a cool, dark place to prevent melting or spoilage. It can last up to 6 months if kept properly sealed.
  • For extra healing power, add a teaspoon of aloe vera gel into the mixture before pouring into containers.
  • Be cautious with the amount of balm used; a little goes a long way to avoid greasy hands or feet.

Serving Suggestions

For best results, apply this nourishing balm after showering or washing your hands and feet. Cover your hands with cotton gloves or socks overnight to enhance absorption and healing. Regular use will help prevent further cracking and keep your skin soft through the harsh winter months.
