Feeder’s members are Grant Nicholas (lead vocals, guitar) and Taka Hirose (bass), with drummers Jon Lee and Mark Richardson as the band’s two former members. The Welsh rock band from Newport formed in 1994 and has always been built around Nicholas. Since Richardson left in 2009, Feeder have worked with session and touring drummers rather than adding a new official member.
Before they were Feeder, Nicholas, Jon Lee and bassist Simon Blight played as Reel, formed in 1992 after the break-up of their earlier band Raindancer. Blight left later in 1992, and after several session bassists the band hired Taka Hirose and became Feeder. Here is every member, plus the main session and touring musicians.
Grant Nicholas (1994–present)
Lead vocalist, lead guitarist, keyboardist and percussionist, and the band’s founder. He has been in every line-up since the Reel days.
Taka Hirose
Bassist and backing vocalist since the mid-nineties. His hiring is what turned Reel into Feeder. The band’s history dates his hiring to 1994, while its member list starts his membership in 1995.
Jon Lee (1994–2002)
Founding drummer and percussionist, who had played with Nicholas in Raindancer and Reel. He was in the band for the breakthrough of Echo Park (2001) and its single “Buck Rogers,” which became a UK top five Platinum-selling single. Jon Lee died in January 2002.
Mark Richardson (2002–2009)
The former Skunk Anansie drummer began recording and playing with Feeder in 2002, appeared on Comfort in Sound that year, and later became an official member. He left in May 2009 when Skunk Anansie re-formed, and returned as a guest in 2025.
