Complete List of Trivium Band Members

Trivium are an American heavy metal band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 1999. The creative core has been fixed for two decades, with vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy, guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto, but the drum stool has changed hands numerous times, most recently with Alex Rüdinger in October 2025. Here is the complete list of Trivium members, current, former and touring, with instruments and years.

Corey Beaulieu Guitars, backing and unclean vocals 2003–present
Paolo Gregoletto Bass, clean backing vocals 2004–present
Alex Rüdinger Drums, percussion 2025–present

Heafy has played on every Trivium release. Beaulieu joined after the recording of the debut album Ember to Inferno (2003), and Gregoletto replaced Brent Young in 2004 before a tour with Machine Head, so every album from Ascendancy (2005) onwards features the same three-man core.

How the Original Line-Up Formed (1999–2004)

Trivium was formed in 1999 by singer and bassist Brad Lewter, guitarist Jarred Bonaparte and drummer Travis Smith. Lewter saw a 13-year-old Matt Heafy playing Metallica’s “No Leaf Clover” at an eighth-grade talent show and invited him to try out as lead guitarist; after a run through “For Whom the Bell Tolls” at Smith’s house, Heafy was in. Lewter left about a year later, Heafy took over lead vocals, and Bonaparte moved from guitar to bass before departing in 2001. Richie Brown of the local black metal band Mindscar filled in on bass until Brent Young settled into the role. Corey Beaulieu joined after Ember to Inferno was recorded, and in 2004 Paolo Gregoletto replaced Young, the same year Roadrunner Records signed the band.

Why Trivium Has Had So Many Drummers

Travis Smith, a founder, unofficially left during the second leg of the Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour, and on February 4, 2010, the band confirmed his departure and named fill-in drummer and ex-drum tech Nick Augusto, a former bandmate of Gregoletto in Metal Militia, as his replacement. Augusto played on In Waves (2011) and Vengeance Falls (2013) before his own departure was announced on May 7, 2014.

His replacement, Mat Madiro, had also been the band’s drum technician; he played on Silence in the Snow (2015). At Knotfest Mexico on December 5 that year it emerged that Madiro had been replaced by Paul Wandtke, a recommendation that came via Dream Theater’s John Petrucci and Mike Mangini. Wandtke recorded nothing with the band and gave way to Alex Bent in 2017.

Who Replaced Alex Bent (2025)

Alex Bent was Trivium’s longest-serving drummer since Smith, playing on every release from The Sin and the Sentence (2017) to Struck Dead (2025). After his departure, Sepultura’s Greyson Nekrutman joined as touring drummer for the remainder of the 2025 Struck Dead tour but was only able to play the Aftershock festival. On October 24, 2025, the band announced that former Whitechapel drummer Alex Rüdinger would join for the tour and work with them on the next album. Rüdinger had originally been asked to join in 2016 but could not because of timing.
