Fever: Causes, Symptoms, Types, Diet & Home Remedies

Fever is a common symptom indicating that the body is fighting off an infection or illness. Understanding its causes, symptoms, and effective remedies can help manage it safely and comfortably.

Ingredients

  • Water – 4 cups (1 liter)
  • Fresh ginger – 1-inch piece, sliced
  • Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons
  • Honey – 1 tablespoon (optional, for soothing)
  • Mint leaves – a handful (optional)
  • Herbal tea leaves (chamomile or tulsi) – 1 teaspoon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil in a saucepan. Add the fresh ginger slices and herbal tea leaves if using. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes to extract the flavors and medicinal properties.
  2. Strain the tea into a cup or teapot to remove ginger and tea leaves. Add lemon juice and honey while the tea is still warm, stirring well until fully dissolved.
  3. If using mint leaves, add them to the tea for a refreshing flavor and additional soothing effects. You can also crush the mint slightly before adding.
  4. Drink this herbal tea warm, 2-3 times a day, especially during the initial stages of fever. Ensure to stay hydrated, and rest as needed.

Tips

  • Substitute honey with other natural sweeteners like agave syrup if preferred, but avoid giving honey to children under 1 year old.
  • Store leftover herbal tea in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; reheat before drinking.
  • Be cautious with herbal remedies if you have allergies or are taking medications; consult a healthcare provider.
  • Always monitor your temperature and seek medical attention if the fever persists beyond 3 days or exceeds 103°F (39.4°C).

Serving Suggestions

Serve this herbal tea warm, ideally in a comfortable setting with plenty of rest. Incorporate light, nutritious foods like soups and broths to support recovery. Remember, while home remedies can alleviate symptoms, persistent or high fevers require professional medical evaluation.
