Jujube tea is a traditional herbal infusion made from dried jujube fruits, prized for its sweet flavor and numerous health benefits. It’s a soothing beverage that can boost immunity, improve sleep, and support digestion when prepared properly.
Ingredients
- dried jujube (red date) fruits – 10-12 pieces
- water – 4 cups (1 liter)
- optional: honey or rock sugar – 1-2 tablespoons
- optional: ginger slices – 2-3 thin slices
Instructions
- Rinse the dried jujube fruits thoroughly under cold water to remove any dust or impurities.
- Place the rinsed jujube fruits into a medium-sized pot.
- Add 4 cups of water to the pot, along with ginger slices if using.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes. This allows the flavors and beneficial compounds to infuse into the water.
- After simmering, remove the pot from heat and strain the tea into cups, discarding the jujube solids and ginger slices.
- Sweeten with honey or rock sugar if desired, stirring until fully dissolved.
- Serve hot or allow it to cool and enjoy as a refreshing cold beverage.
Tips
- For a milder flavor, reduce the simmering time or use fewer jujube fruits.
- If you prefer a sweeter tea, add honey or rock sugar while the tea is still warm for better dissolving.
- Store any leftover tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat before serving or enjoy cold.
- Consider adding other herbs like goji berries or chrysanthemum flowers for added flavor and health benefits.
Serving Suggestions
Enjoy jujube tea as a comforting morning pick-me-up or a relaxing evening beverage. It pairs well with light snacks or can be consumed on its own for a health-boosting treat. Regular consumption may support better sleep, digestion, and immune health.
