Vanilla Tea: 20 Benefits, Side Effects, Dosage & How to Make It

Vanilla tea is a soothing herbal infusion that combines the natural sweetness and aroma of vanilla with the calming properties of tea. It’s not only a delightful beverage but also offers numerous health benefits, making it a perfect choice for relaxation and wellness.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 vanilla bean pod or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon black or green tea leaves (optional for added flavor)
  • Honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
  • Milk or plant-based milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan or kettle.
  2. If using a vanilla bean pod, slice it lengthwise to expose the seeds. Add the pod and seeds to the boiling water. If using vanilla extract, add it after boiling.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the vanilla steep for about 10 minutes to infuse the water with flavor.
  4. If you prefer a stronger vanilla aroma, you can extend the steeping time by a few minutes, but avoid boiling for too long to prevent bitterness.
  5. Remove the vanilla bean pod or strain out the vanilla extract if used. If adding tea leaves, add them now and steep for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Pour the hot vanilla tea into cups. Sweeten with honey or your preferred sweetener if desired.
  7. Optionally, add a splash of milk or plant-based milk to create a creamier beverage.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy the calming aroma and flavor of vanilla tea.

Tips

  • For a richer vanilla flavor, use vanilla bean pods instead of extract, and consider scraping out the seeds to add directly into the water.
  • Store leftover vanilla beans in a cool, dark place in an airtight container for future use.
  • Adjust the steeping time based on your preferred strength—longer steeping yields a more intense vanilla taste.
  • If you want a chilled version, let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate and serve over ice.

Serving Suggestions

Vanilla tea pairs wonderfully with light snacks like cookies, biscotti, or fruit. It also makes a comforting evening drink that can help unwind after a busy day. For an extra indulgence, top with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
