Kumkumadi Oil: 20 Benefits, Side Effects & How to Use It

Kumkumadi oil is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal concoction renowned for its skin rejuvenation properties. Rich in natural ingredients, it works to improve skin tone, diminish blemishes, and promote a radiant complexion. Incorporating this oil into your skincare routine can help achieve healthier, glowing skin over time.

Ingredients

  • Pure Kumkumadi oil – 10 ml
  • Fresh saffron strands – 2-3 strands
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Rose water – 2 teaspoons (optional, for mixing)
  • Optional: a few drops of sandalwood oil or other herbal extracts

Instructions

  1. Start with clean, dry skin. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.
  2. In a small, clean glass bottle or container, add the pure Kumkumadi oil.
  3. Crush the saffron strands into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or the back of a spoon. Mix this saffron powder into the Kumkumadi oil.
  4. Add the turmeric powder to the mixture. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly combined.
  5. If desired, add a few drops of sandalwood oil or herbal extracts for enhanced benefits. Mix thoroughly.
  6. For easier application, you can dilute the oil with rose water, adding 2 teaspoons and stirring well.
  7. Store the mixture in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight. Allow the saffron and turmeric to infuse into the oil for at least 24 hours before first use.
  8. To use, take a few drops of the oil on your fingertips and gently massage onto your face and neck in circular motions. Use twice daily—morning and night.
  9. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes, or overnight if preferred, then rinse with lukewarm water or follow with your regular cleanser.

Tips

  • For best results, perform a patch test before full application to check for any allergic reactions, especially if you have sensitive skin.
  • If fresh saffron is unavailable, high-quality saffron powder can be used but ensure it’s pure and free from additives.
  • Store the oil in a dark glass bottle to protect it from sunlight, which can degrade the herbal properties.
  • Avoid applying the oil near your eyes or on broken or irritated skin to prevent discomfort.

Serving Suggestions

Incorporate Kumkumadi oil into your daily skincare routine for optimal benefits. Use as a facial oil after cleansing and toning, or mix it with your night cream for added nourishment. Regular use can help reduce pigmentation, improve skin texture, and promote a luminous glow.
