The current members of Iron Maiden are Steve Harris (bass), Dave Murray (guitars), Adrian Smith (guitars), Bruce Dickinson (lead vocals), Nicko McBrain (drums) and Janick Gers (guitars). McBrain is still a member but has not toured since 2024, so Simon Dawson plays drums on tour. Harris founded the band in 1975 and is the only member who has been there from the start.
Iron Maiden formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975. For most of its history the line-up has been Harris, Dickinson, McBrain, Murray, Smith and Gers, the same six who make up the band today. The band has sold over 130 million copies of its albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2026. Steve Harris (1975–present)
Bass guitar and backing vocals, plus keyboards and synthesisers. Harris founded Iron Maiden and is its primary songwriter.
Dave Murray (1976–1977, 1978–present)
Guitars. Murray joined in 1976 and, apart from a short break, has played in the band ever since. He is the longest-serving member after Harris.
Adrian Smith (1980–1990, 1999–present)
Guitars and backing vocals. Smith left in 1990 and returned in 1999 together with Bruce Dickinson, a reunion that led to a new run of albums and tours.
Bruce Dickinson (1981–1993, 1999–present)
Lead vocals. Dickinson replaced Paul Di’Anno in 1981, and his first album with the band was The Number of the Beast (1982). He left in 1993 and came back in 1999.
Nicko McBrain (1982–present)
Drums. McBrain joined in 1982. He retired from touring in 2024 but is still a member of the band.
Janick Gers (1990–present)
Guitars. Gers joined in 1990. Since Smith’s return in 1999, Iron Maiden has had three guitarists: Murray, Smith and Gers.
