The current members of Journey are Neal Schon (lead guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards, rhythm guitar), Deen Castronovo (drums), Arnel Pineda (lead vocals), Jason Derlatka (keyboards) and Todd Jensen (bass). Schon is the only founding member left. He has been in Journey since it formed in San Francisco in 1973, and Arnel Pineda has been the lead singer since 2007.
Journey had its biggest success between 1978 and 1987, when Steve Perry was the lead vocalist. After a 1990s reunion, the band went on first with Steve Augeri from 1998 to 2006 and then with Pineda. Here is each current member, with roles and years as the band’s member list gives them.
Neal Schon (1973–1987, 1991, 1995–present)
Lead guitar and backing vocals. Schon is a founding member and has been in every era of the band. He is the one constant from the progressive rock beginnings through the hit years and the line-ups since.
Jonathan Cain (1980–1987, 1991, 1995–present)
Keyboards, backing vocals, rhythm guitar and harmonica. Cain joined in 1980 and, like Schon, has been part of every Journey line-up since 1995. Escape, the band’s most successful album, reached number one on the Billboard 200.
Deen Castronovo (1998–2015, 2021–present)
Drums, plus backing and lead vocals. Castronovo first joined in 1998, the year the Steve Augeri era began, and returned in 2021 after six years away.
Arnel Pineda (2007–present)
Lead vocals. Pineda has fronted Journey since 2007. Before him, Steve Augeri was lead singer from 1998 to 2006.
Jason Derlatka (2020–present)
Keyboards, plus backing and lead vocals. Derlatka joined in 2020 and gives the band a second keyboard player alongside Cain.
Todd Jensen (2021–present)
Bass and backing vocals. Jensen joined in 2021. Earlier Journey bassists include Ross Valory and Randy Jackson.
